The media kool-aid Jonas

So this morning, after having it installed for a couple weeks, I deactivated the Disqus plugin that we had installed. Back to regular Wordpress comments.

It was first when I uninstalled it and started to think about their business that I became quite impressed about the possibilities of the product.

What if I could comment on an article about the Olympic fire on New York Times and it would be duplicated and add to the discussion on the Wall street journal as well? The duplication of content that’s so evident in news and blogs is a great opportunity for a company like Disqus, since the unique content is most likely to actually be created by the readers in the comments and not the journalists/bloggers/writers/whatever.

When the comments, as it often is in the posts on for example Techcrunch and RWW , is where the true value of the content is. Then if Disqus can foster and spread that discussion it has a fantastic possibility to become one of the more important players regarding the future of newspapers and media in general.

I might be too excited about their product, but if they can succeed with the distributing comments on more proporties, creating an identity for commenters and continue to develop their API I’ll continue to drink their Kool-aid. When is the first big newspaper partner announced?
