Investing in nothing by Jonas

Timbaland and Verizon recently announced that Timbaland will release a “mobile album”, that is one song per month exclusively for Verizon users.

How dead is this? Pretty damn dead.

Today no one can make a song exclusively for anyone, instead pretty much all songs are available for everyone today. So with some kind of reality check it never will be an exclusive song or album. I will be able to download it within hours of it’s release. Guaranteed.

Timbaland is having all of it, getting paid to release some tracks that didn’t make it on to previous albums.

I guess it’s a branding strategy on Verizon’s part, although if they had some kind of understanding of their market they would release the songs for free and help push distribution. That would make for a larger brand impact and improve the Verizon brand more than trying to release “the first mobile album ever”. Lame.
