SyncTV - an interesting project from Pioneer by Jonas

Just read about SyncTV, which is a subsidiary of electronic maker Pioneer, which apparently have been in development for about two years. From the details they’ve given us so far it seems to be a very interesting project. From their blog:

With the launch of SyncTV, here is a combination of features that you will not see anywhere else:

* Flexible playback. Right from the start of the beta, SyncTV will work on Windows PCs, Macs and Linux PCs. Later on, as compatible devices come to market you will see portable players and even TVs supporting the service.

* Unlimited downloads of TV shows. For a low monthly subscription, you can now download whole seasons of TV shows and watch them whenever you want.

* Open-standards. With open-standards, we will be able to develop an ecosystem that will grow and become stronger over time.

* High-quality playback. The quality of all our TV shows will be as good or better than the same shows on DVD. Where we can, we will provide you with HD programming. Plus, we will also have programming available in discreet 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus.

It’s going to be a subscription model that charges between $2-$4 per channel and offering individual shows at $2. Currently in private beta, it will be released to the public in January 2008.
