Packaging - the future of media sites
After thinking about my previous post on the future of media and what is important, it becomes more clear that it’s the way you package and deliver content that is the business opportunity, not as much creating the actual content.
iTunes might be an obvious example but still one of the most prominent examples of being able to monetize digital content the way no one else has been able to. Their offer is combined with their physical products but the total experience of using iTunes together with your iPod is so synchronized that you’re happy to pay for both the product and the content.
Delivering content in a personalised and targeted way is media sites greatest challenge. Creating a good enough package that will attract people. Some players are already understanding this, but in Sweden there are still many lessons to be learned on how to use content creators to extend the value of their own sites.
Finding external content, letting visitors create content and merge that with the content you’re creating is essential for the future success of media sites.
Coming up: a post that will contradict what is written above.
