Why can’t we all agree on making great enterprise software? by Jonas

Today I sat through a session regarding how to use one of the largest CMS products in the Nordic region. Guess which?

One thing was brought up again and again in the session was how terribly hard it seemed to publish new content with this software. The frightening fact about this is that the CMS is suppose to be one of the most editor friendly on the market. The way a user interacted with this software made even Microsoft Word seem intuitive.

I could write a lot about how enterprise software never seem to get it right. But fortunately both Khoi and Jason at 37signals have great posts on the subject.

Two thoughts on the problem. First, the expectations on user interface for enterprise product is so low that you always include training together with the product. Messed up? Si, señor. Second, the buyer is not always the user, who should the product satisfy?
