The chillin’ out business Jonas

As New York Times so well explains, the issue for many coffee shops today is whether or not to offer free wifi. Many places are offering it, just not so many for free which really should be considered the key aspect. Not only for the actual cost, but also for the hassle of having to go up, get your code, type it in and finally you can access the hotspot.

I always prefer just to open my laptop and I’m ready to go. So much easier and friendlier, which is one of the main reason why we have chosen to spend many, many hours at our favorite coffee shop. I’m pretty sure our food and coffee alone have paid for a years worth of Wifi. Easily.

The key aspect is to discuss what is our business offer? Is it the coffee, the pastries or the experience. The logical thinking would be to assume that by providing the customers with an excellent experience, they’re more likely to spend more time, more frequently visit and thereby, spend more money at your coffee shop.

What many managers should try to realize is when you’re charging $5 for a coffee it’s a pretty decent act to offer something extra with that.
