I need my Beta version and I want my Beta version. Not.
I read this paragraph on Techcrunch but wasn’t smart enough to give it some extra though, lucky for me though, John Gruber did over at Daring Fireball.
Mike Arrington, on Barack Obama’s new community web site:
All I really want to know is, who built this for them? It launched basically feature-complete and bug free, which would be very hard to do without an extended beta.
We have now gotten to the point where Mike Arrington thinks it’s weird to release software to the public only after it is finished. I’m guessing they did have a beta — a real one, not a public one. I’d be appalled if a presidential candidate launched a half-assed beta web site.
Quite right. It’s sad that it now has come to the point where we (Arrington) don’t expect new sites to be bug-free, which is a really a terrible place for the web to be. Since we ourselves is about 6 months due our timeschedule on our next app Ebento, we’re very much aware of the problems with creating smoothly running software. Bugs and other issues are a major concern for businesspeople when creating websites and apps since its like having a broken $200 000 Ferrari. Painful.
Hopefully “ready for release”-apps is the big thing this year.
