Om “Kojak” Malik is on to something… by Jonas

It seems like the recent Hitwise statistics made a little impact on the blogosphere, and what has been mostly noted has been the growth of Google Reader. But to me, the most interesting notion is the size of Rojo. As it was bought in 2006 by Six Apart, it has absolutely surged in growth and is now the second largest RSS reader on the market, according to the Hitwise statistics.

Now Om Malik has found a “maybe” reason to why Rojo has been able to knock Google off Main Court, partly because they have taken the robot.txt file from Rojo.com and thereby allowing search engines to index each Rojo page as an individual page. This is just one guess, and there might be something to it or as Marshall puts it, “or perhaps Rojo really rocks and I haven’t been paying enough attentionâ€?.

But I just found it shocking that the internet statistics are so far off most of the time, and the only market driven statistic companies, such as Hitwise, Alexa or Comscore, fulfill much of our reliance on stats. The internet is an amazing opportunity for many people but in order for it to fully reach its potential, both in terms of advertising dollars and resources, a more reliable tool would be fan-freaking-tastic.
