Print ads of the future
![]()
It will be interesting to follow the development of ads in the coming months/years, since Google recently patented a system for only showing products on billboards that actually are in stock and can be purchased instantly. This is one of the examples of also taking the segmented and targeted ad system from, among others, AdSense and putting it to use in real life. One of the more interesting examples is how yell.com used London buses to carry the world’s first GPS advertising. Depending on where the buses drove at that given moment, the ads on the LED panels of the side of the bus showed a different ad, targeted to the geographical area and demographic currently able to view the bus.
This is ought to prove to be a strong inclination of where billboard ads and outdoor commercials will be in a couple of years. A prediction (or just a wondering) is that the usage of LED screens and regular movie screens will increase in order to, a larger extent, customize and modify the commercial message. A future with Blade Runner-like billboards is more and more coming to reality.
