Women 2.0 by Jonathan

One of the beautiful things about the internet is its reluctance to adhere to barriers. The webosphere interacts with all types of entities, geographical locations, and personas. And as web 2.0 fuses technology with consumer and social behavior, the world of Geekdom becomes more and more alluring to one very interesting demographic. Women.

With obvious exceptions, the history of the female technocrat has been… less documentd, so to say (I think others have noticed). However, our counterparts across the pond have more and more women surfacing with the likes of Christine Herron , Emily Chang, Caterina Fake (of Flickr fame), along with a number of sites that support women and the web (CSS Princess , Women 2.0 , WOW2).

Here in Sweden, women net-entrepreneurs are also receiving attention. A rough count on the top rising entrepreneurs on the web (Internetworld) listed 4 of the 35 names as women. We’re also familiar with Karolina Lassbo , Karin Fröderberg , and Liisa, but I think it’s safe to say there is abundant space for women (within the web) and there are great opportunities to be a driving figure during the present era.

Whether or not men just like to stroke their ego a little more or being technically saavy has yet to become chic amongst women, the prominence of the web 2.0 woman is unfolding and the opportunities are equally exciting as the industry itself.
