Is the web business of today similair to the moviebusiness of the 70s? by Jonas

Today, we see the development of small teams and people working with things they care about and nourish, there are certain similairties to what happened in hollywood during the 1970s, when the big studio system let some smaller directors inside, primarily Francis Ford Coppola to start with, who brought in his trojan horse and let loose all these other young, promising filmmakers.

They directed small movies for their own sake and films of their own taste, and the result led to a growing number of fans that appreciated the freshness of the small, independent movie. Its kind of the same feeling on the web today, that people, without capital and the powers of big companies can become successful.

As we have seen in a number of cases, small business applications made for a limited amount of resources have the potential of drawing the attention and interest of a lot of people. I would guess its the feeling of being real, that if you simply look within yourself and envision this problem and see a solution that fits to it, it’s the right thing to do. You don’t need the 60 page business plan full with guesses about how things might turn out or how such-in-such should be done. But instead just go out and build things, small things, big things, whatever, but the power of creation is immensely strong on the web today.

During the 1970’s there was a feeling of filmhistory being made there and then, and by reading the posts and comments on the blogosphere in this era, there is a sense of that today as well.

So shake it up, mix it up. This might be the future of the world. And if it isn’t who cares, its just fun anyway.
