Top 5 2.0 List: influences by Jonathan

For many of you, this may seem like it was written in 2004, but hopefully a couple people could something from this…

There are quite a few reasons why we’ve endeavored into the world of new media, much had to do with circumstances, the particular business model, and our own personalities. But once the initial step had been taken, we became wrapped into “the community” with it’s personalities, ideas, and a freshness, especially to those who share some cynicism for corporate behavior–i.e. fans of “The Office”(either version).

It’s safe to say that we’ve spent a large amount of time reading and conversing about what we’ve read to try and sort out what we think is right…and that’s an ongoing work-in-progress. However, we would like to note that anybody who is standing where we were 4 months ago, should have a look a some these names and their work. Whether it was positive or negative, these 5 entities have helped us understand better what we would like to do today and going forward.

lk9’s top 5 2.0 influences (no particular order):

1. 37 signals, I know, it might be like rooting for the Yankees, but the deliberate effort to establish transparency and simplicity was encouraging to how companies don’t have to act “corporate”, yet still be successful.

2. web 2.0 show Being new to podcasting, we quickly learned how great it was to be able to work on our site building and listen/learn more about the industry. They’ve done a great job in making a name for themselves and delivering the voices of many of the blogs and articles which we had been reading. Sorry Leo.

3. michael arrington, Not that we always agree with the reviews, but what a great source techcrunch is for those who want to “keep up with the Jones’”. At least you can see who has taken that idea you once had about making such-in-such type of site and put it into fruition. Just helps to keep the eye sharp.

4. ryan carson How could he not be on the list? He opened up the whole process to give those of us an idea how they went about creating a web application. Carson workshops is also a great illustration on how to create ways to finance your projects. fyi, we think Gill is running the show.

5. calacanis He might be a little over the top, especially to nordic codes of conduct, but it’s in a good way…kind of like castanza. But by all means, sharp and entertaining.

Obviously today, our horizons have spread a bit and are taking in new ideas, personalities everyday, but for anyone who is just starting to get into this, this 5 could be influential.
